CrossFit Stony Brook White Water Rafting Trip

White Water Rafting May 14th 2011

Check-In

Please Checking between 6:00-6:30 am at CrossFit Stony Brook.   The address is 22 Woods Corner Road Setauket, NY 11733. 

Directions: Take Long Island Expressway (495) east to exit 62 County Road 97/Nicholls Road, go North.  You are going to stay on Nicholls Road heading North for a few miles, you will pass Stony Brook University and the Hospital.  Nicholls Road will end at 25A/North Country Road.  Make a Right (east), as soon as you turn you will see us on the right hand side.  Make your first right by the curry club and you will see us there.

 Lunch:  We will be providing you with a Salad for Lunch, mixed greens with grilled chicken, walnuts, cranberries and vinaigrette on the side.  It will also include a snack and a water.  If you have any dietary concerns please email by Wednesday so we can accommodate you. 

What to wear and bring:

  • You are going to get wet so please don’t wear cotton, it is very cold when wet.  This includes sweat pants and sweat shirts.  Wool or synthetic fibers are much better. 
  • If you have a wetsuit – bring it.
  •  If it is cold bringing a wind break (without a hood) is a good idea.  Other items to keep you warm can include wool hats, gloves, sweater, fleece, wool socks.
  • You need footwear, old sneakers are best.  Sturdy Sandals like Teva’s are acceptable.  Flip Flops, loose fitting sandals, “crocs” and bare feet are not permitted. 
  • Sun screen, or a cap or visor is recommended.
  • Eyeglass Strap
  • A change of Clothes, license, money

What you can’t bring:

  • Styrofoam cooler-at bus drivers request.  They make too much of a mess of the bus
  • Hard cooler on the river – they take up too much room in the raft and can become dangerous in rough water.  They are ok for the bus.
  • Alcohol/drugs on the river.  It is on state park land and there is no drinking or drugs allowed.
  • Expensive cameras that are not water proof.
  • I don’t recommend wearing any expensive jewelry. 

Addition items:

  • Wetsuits will be available for rental.
  • ZipLine Adventure – The excitement builds as you harness up and climb to the “launching pad.”  Then it’s into the air, soaring like an eagle, for a zippy, tree-top view of the Adventure Center. $10 per ticket
  • Dinner we will try to stop on the way home at a rest area.  There probably won’t be a health option but you can also pack something to leave in the bus. 

CrossFit Stony Brook Sports Outing -White Water Rafting

CrossFit Stony Brook has planned its first sports outing.  In CrossFit we think it is important to get out and try new sports and to get outside and be active.  We also love the community aspect of our gym, and love getting together to have some fun.  We will be planning different group outings throughout the year and would love for everyone to participate.  Anyone is welcome to join us so feel free to bring your friends and family. 

Event:White Water Rafting

Date:May 14th

Time: All day event – start time 6:30 am

Cost: $115 per person

Includes:

  • Round trip transportation in a coach bus to White Water Challengers in PA
  • A day of White Water Rafting on the Lehigh River
  • A taste and nutritious lunch, grilled chicken on a nice salad if you have food allergies or don’t eat chicken or something like that email michael@crossfitstonybrook.com and I will work on getting you something else.
  • More to be added depending on how many people sign up

Wetsuits are not included but recommended if it is cold.  If you have one or can borrow one bring it.  You can rent them there also.  Try not to wear cotton, its very cold when wet.  Bring dry cloths to leave on the bus. 

How to Sign up:

  2. It should take you to the right spotif it doesn’t Click on the seminars tab in the top right
  3. Click on the sign up now button under the White Water Rafting Trip
  4. It will prompt you to login.  If you don’t have a login yet create on, even if you not a member. Its really simple just follow the directions.
  5. After you login click enroll, you can also enroll others and pay for them if you like.
  6. Follow prompts to pay by credit card

If you would like to pay by cash or check just stop by the gym and we will take care of it for you.

Space is limited so sign up early! The Deadline has been extended until the 29th. 

Restrictions: You must be 9 years old or older to participate.  All Reservations are final, we can not refund your money because we have to pay for everything before hand.  If you can’t make it you can give it to someone else.  We will do our best to help you with that if we can.

No Alcohol or glass on the river and you cant bring a hard cooler on the river. The driver asked that we dont bring stryofoan cooler on the bus because they make a mess.
